Gillian Flynn's Gone Girl took the literary world by storm in 2012, selling more than two million copies in print and digital editions by the end of its first year. As such, it's hardly surprising that every aspect of the upcoming film has been so hotly discussed. So far we knew that was taking the male lead as Nick Dunne, whose wife Amy () vanishes, leaving him as the prime suspect in a murder case.
Now supporting characters have been cast: media mogul has signed on to play Tanner Bolt, the flashy sleb attorney who agrees to take on Nick's case when his wife disappears.
Footloose's and Almost Famous star will play the two detectives. Broadway star and Tony nominee will play Nick's twin sister and close confidant. AKA the womanizing Barney Stinson from How I Met Your Mother is reportedly in talks to play Desi, a mysterious man from Amy's past.
There's still a number of roles that haven't been cast, including Nick's father and a TV pundit, but we imagine these will get snapped up pretty quickly given how high profile an adaptation this is becoming.
(The Social Network, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) is helming the production, which is set to debut next year.
