For many that grew up going to Disneyland and California Adventure, it was truly heartbreaking that after many years of being one of the most popular rides in the park, Hollywood Tower of Terror would be closing down.
However, some hope was brought back to fans when it was announced that the ride would be remodeled and given the theme of the Guardians of the Galaxy. But it is not just the same ride with a new filter over it. In fact, some big changes that made Tower of Terror what it was are being perfected along with the Guardians update.
Here are three of the biggest changes that are set to happen.
Back when it was announced that Star Tours would be getting updated, it was also announced that there would be more planets that riders could go to, offering more stories to people rather than just the same story that the ride had since it was opened. When it opened back up, Star Tours: The Adventure Continues offered up to 54 different possible rides.
As for Tower of Terror, it had the exact same story, providing the same ride every time to people. But now, it seems that Mission Breakout will be taking a page out of the Star Tours handbook. The ride will offer several different stories within the ride, always picked at random. At the moment, the number of different rides that will be offered is unknown, but we can bet that there will be just enough to be to make it totally awesome.
The whole thing behind Tower of Terror was the fact that the ride was one big terrifying drop and within that drop there would be several smaller drops. The first few times you experience this ride, those drops are terrifying. However, after years of going on this ride, while it is still fun, the drops become predictable. That is another thing that Mission Breakout will be fixing.
Instead of the same drops, Mission Breakout will now feature its drops in a completely random order every time. No two drops will be the same. Much like what Star Tours: The Adventure Continues is doing, the ride is set to give riders a fresh new experience every time they go on it.
While the drops for Mission Breakout will be random, there will be a pattern to them. Not only is the ride showcasing the characters from Guardians of the Galaxy, but it is also showcasing the music from its soundtrack.
Every time the ride begins, a song from the now infamous Awesome Mix Vol 1 will play in the background and the drops will be choreographed to happen at specific points in the track. So while there will be a pattern to each drop due to the chosen song, riders won't know how the adventure will unfold until they experience each different song for the first time.
So What's the Story?
Much like Star Tours: The Adventure Continues, Mission Breakout will have one core story that has several different possibilities within it. Disney Parks Blog actually gave a small synopsis as to what the story of the ride would be.
Deep inside his fortress-like collection, the mysterious Taneleer Tivan (aka The Collector) is displaying his newest acquisitions, the Guardians of the Galaxy. They are trapped in customized display cases, suspended over a vast abyss. Unbeknownst to their unscrupulous captor, the intrepid Rocket has escaped and is enlisting the Collector’s VIP guests for help. Guests board a gantry lift, which launches them into a chaotic and hilarious adventure as they join Rocket in an attempt to break his fellow Guardians out of captivity.
While many may be disappointed one of the most popular rides in Disney's California Adventure theme park will be gone for good, they should also be excited. Not only are we finally getting a a new ride based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but we are getting something that will come as a surprise every time to people and that is going to be absolutely, well, awesome.
