Elysium star and longtime collaborator, , believes is 'perfect' in the role of the dastardly Queen in Disney's Maleficent.

During an interview with Sydney Confidential on the red carpet at Elysium's premiere down under, Copley argued Jolie would surprise audiences with her performance.

'I think the role of Maleficent is so perfectly suited to her,' he gushed.

'She has this incredible range that people forget because she has become such an icon in our society with her visual look.'

'Angie's playing a character that has these multifaceted layers, that can be very hard and steely on the outside, but with a real heart underneath.'

'I think it’s going to be a very interesting performance from her.'

Interesting, eh? You know what I think is interesting, Sharlto? That your girlfriend , who you were photographed on the red carpet with, looks a little bit like...

...wait for it...

I have to say that I'm always excessively interested in people who I find singularly good looking and/or are exactly my type. But that's just me, I'm shallow. I reckon Sharlto's just a disciple of Angelina's Craft.

Here's the synopsis for the upcoming Maleficent:

'Maleficent is the untold story of Disney's most iconic villain from the 1959 classic Sleeping Beauty. A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land.

Maleficent rises to be the land's fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal - an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone.

Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king's successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora.

As the child grows, Maleficent realises that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom - and perhaps to Maleficent's true happiness as well.'

Disney live-action production director recently said of the film:

"We'll see the events that drove her to be evil. The film will intersect with scenes from the classic animated film. We initially meet Maleficent as a teenage fairy and how she's betrayed."

Stirring stuff! Angelina's taken a long absence from acting, so it'll be great to see her in front of the camera again, rather than doing voice work. Will you tune in for Maleficent? Let me know below.
