Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy featured many great lines that have since become part of pop culture language, but few have been as influential as the when told the epic legend of , and how the great saved an entire town where dancing had been outlawed.

"I don't dance." Gamora says as the two stand on a balcony looking over the cosmic landscape beyond.

"Really?" Star-Lord leans in closely. "Well, on my planet, we have a legend about people like you. It's called Footloose. And in it, a great hero named Kevin Bacon teaches an entire city full of people with sticks up their butts that dancing, well, is the greatest thing there is."

I never heard such a loud, rousing bout of guffaws in a movie theater in all my life. Guardians of the Galaxy became an instant classic for its humor and sharp wit, unexpectedly becoming one of Marvel's biggest hits to date. The Footloose joke has become an oft quoted favorite among viewers. Given that, should filmmakers go further with it? Why not actually bring Kevin Bacon himself on board?

Why A Kevin Bacon Cameo?

So the Footloose joke is a fan favorite, but is that enough to warrant a Kevin Bacon cameo? The line was after all just one joke in many. John Stamos was referenced as well, so why doesn't he get the cameo treatment? The answer is (aside from my own ravenous Kevin Bacon fandom) he does play a significant role in the original film. I can see you rolling your eyes through the information highway, but just hear me out for a second.

Unlike Stamos, Bacon is a key element in the development of Star-Lord and Gamora's relationship. Star-Lord uses the story of Footloose in an attempt to get Gamora to open up emotionally. The reason this joke is so well remembered is it occurs not during a moment of passing, but during one of the most significant moments in the film. Had it occurred at any other time, it would have just been another funny (but still disposable) line that had little bearing on the story itself.

The legend of Footloose is also shown to have greatly influenced Gamora. During the film's exciting final battle scene, she turns to Star-Lord and says "We're just like Kevin Bacon." This says a lot about how the Footloose legend has affected her, and that she now considers this great hero known as Kevin Bacon to be a good role model for a warrior.

In sequels, themes and ideas are expected to be expanded on. Given Kevin Bacon was a crucial ingredient in Star-Lord's and Gamora's relationship, expanding his role would almost be expected of the filmmakers.

Kevin Bacon Should Play Himself

If there is a Kevin Bacon cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2, it would undoubtedly be better if he plays himself. Bacon previously appeared in another Marvel movie, , so he already has a presence in the . However, Guardians establishes that Kevin Bacon does exist as an actor in this universe. This opens up many creative possibilities as to just how the iconic actor could be involved.

The 1999 comedy Galaxy Quest featured the cast of a Star Trek-like show being whisked away to fight real aliens. A similar setup could be how Kevin Bacon finds his way into the story. Keep in mind Gamora thinks the actor is a great hero (Well, he is a great hero, but that's beside the point). If Star-Lord puts out a call for his team to bring warriors before a battle, it would be conceivable for Gamora to travel to Earth and bring home the Bacon. Shenanigans would ensue.

That's of course just one scenario where Bacon could sizzle his way onto the screen. In the end, the Guardians may come to him. Part of the appeal of Guardians of the Galaxy is the creative universe it builds, but many of these threats within that universe (such as ) have their eyes set on Earth as a planet ripe to be conquered. It's inevitable that the Guardians of the Galaxy must eventually go to Earth to protect it. When that happens, it's no small stretch to imagine them bumping into Kevin Bacon.

OK, so we know just how we could get our Kevin Bacon cameo in a Guardians of the Galaxy movie, but what then? Surely he must have more than a mere walk-on. This is Kevin Bacon we're talking about — he should get in on the action.

The 'Footloose' Joke Should Come Into Play

After the premier, mash ups of Guardians and Footloose appeared all over the internet from both official and non-official sources. The cover of popular Hollywood insider magazine Backstory directly parodied the famous Footloose poster. What started as a simple joke expanded to become part of popular culture almost overnight. The two movies seemed like a match made in heaven. So, if and when our favorite actor named after a delicious meat product has his cameo, this should be the movie he revisits. In his cameo, Kevin Bacon's gotta dance.

Kevin Bacon showing off some of his rocking dance moves makes a lot of sense. Dancing is a recurring theme in Guardians of the Galaxy. It's how Star-Lord and Gamora bond, and Star-Lord even challenges to a dance off in the humorous finale. Plus we know that Kevin Bacon still has some pretty sweet moves. That same year on with , Bacon danced his way on stage wearing his famous red tuxedo from Footloose.

Since the act of a joyous jig is so important to the original film, it's pretty much a no-brainer what Kevin Bacon must do to save the galaxy. He must put on that awesome red tux and and show the villain of the week how the pros get it done. Perhaps he can even help the Guardians defeat the Big Bad the same way he saved an entire town of people with sticks up their butts. And there will be much rejoicing.

This was not just a favorite moment for me, but many, many other devoted fans of this new classic. Guardians of the Galaxy is like a nice breakfast that gives you the energy to start the day. But remember, in order to have a complete breakfast, you gotta have the Bacon. So let's keep our fingers crossed that sometime soon, Kevin Bacon will have a brief tagalong with Star-Lord and the gang.
