The Rotten Tomatoes score is in, and — currently at 39 percent — it seems that Justice League is closer to Batman v. Superman than Wonder Woman. Nevertheless, fans are having a more positive reaction on social media, perhaps because they know Zack Snyder deserves more credit than he gets for his work on the . Here's why:

Numerous Directors Tried And Failed To Make A DC Cinematic Universe Happen

Everybody agrees that Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Trilogy was brilliant, but so many other DC movies failed to launch a franchise (or failed to launch at all).

Warner Bros. scrapped numerous attempts at a Superman reboot, and when Superman Returns finally hit theaters in 2006, it didn't meet expectations. The Ryan Reynolds-led Green Lantern failed on all levels, and George Miller's planned Justice League: Mortalslated for production in 2007 with Armie Hammer as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Megan Gale as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, and D. J. Cotrona as Clark Kent/Superman — failed to materialize due to budget issues.

Even if the DCEU isn't perfect, it does exist, which is a testament to the fact that Zack Snyder has succeeded where many other directors and producers failed.

Man Of Steel Is Better Than You Remember

Zack Snyder started the DCEU with 2013’s Man of Steel, just two years after the failure of Green Lantern. This was a very different movie than the Richard Donner films, and a very different Superman than we'd ever seen in TV shows and cartoons.

Still, gave us a great version of Superman, who had to make many tough decisions, including whether to kill one of his own Kryptonian brethren to save humankind. That was extremely controversial at the time, but Batman v. Superman gave it a new context. And really, Man of Steel was more about Clark Kent's journey to become Superman than his actually being Superman.

Zack Snyder Chose Ben Affleck For Batman, An Inspired And Bold Move

It's difficult to remember now, but when Warner Bros. announced Ben Affleck as the DCEU's Batman, the internet was furious. How could a failed Daredevil play Batman?

Say what you will about Batman v Superman, but Ben Affleck’s portrayal of Batman is arguably the greatest that we’ve ever seen on the big screen. And whom should we thank for this incredible casting? That’s right, Zack Snyder.

Snyder wanted an older, grittier type of Batman, one who’s been beaten, broken and damaged. His mind immediately went to Affleck. Many fans laughed and scoffed at the notion of "Batfleck," but no one is laughing now.

Justice League Still Gets A Lot Right

After many years of waiting, we will finally get to see all of our DC heroes fight against Steppenwolf and his Parademons. Even many critics who don't love Justice League are praising the performances from Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller and Jason Momoa, and for setting up a more hopeful DCEU. While some may credit Joss Whedon's reshoots for that, producer Charles Roven explained that "80, 85 percent of the movie is what was originally shot."

For DC fans, this is a movie that we never expected to see during our lifetimes, and Zack Snyder made it happen. The man has put his blood, sweat, and tears into this production and this cinematic universe. With Thanksgiving coming up, I'm grateful for many things, and Zack Snyder is one of them.
