Man of Steel is one of those superhero films that everyone is waiting for; waiting for it to be awesome, or waiting for it to totally f%&k up. The closer that it comes to being released, the higher the stakes are get, and the clearer the shape of MOS's role in Warner Bros' long-term plans becomes.

According to Batman On Film, Warner Bros originally planned for the Superman vehicle to be a trilogy. BOF claims to have a source (whom they lovingly refer to as FOBOF) that put Man of Steel into the context of Warner Bros' extended vision, and that vision involves a trilogy. Specifically, the FOBOF says:

If Superman [this Summer’s MAN OF STEEL] is huge, then they’ve bought themselves some time and will have a franchise to hang their hat on for seven, eight years. The need for Batman won’t be as great, and [the reboot] of that franchise can wait until the Superman trilogy is done.

So, it would seem that unless this summer's MOS royally screws the pooch and alienates anyone who ever loved anything about Supes, there are potentially more Superman movies in the pipeline. The caveat might be the upcoming film's success, but let's face it, a lot of people are going to lay out money to see it, especially if it's got even a whiff of producer 's Dark Knight to it.

Would you want a Man of Steel trilogy? Let me know in the comments.
