It had long been assumed that Keira Knightley had closed out her role in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise with the third film in the series, 2007's At World's End. But with recent word that her character Elizabeth Swann is returning to with a post-credits scene in Dead Men Tell No Tales, we wonder what this could all mean for the swashbuckling series.

's character will rejoin Pirates of the Caribbean mainstays Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp in the sequence as they prepare to go on a new adventure in the film to follow.

Post-Credits Sequence Leads To Sequel

No sequels or plans have been announced by as of yet, but when accounting for Knightley's brief return and the tradition of post-credits scenes indicating a film to follow, it's safe to assume that a sixth installment will follow Dead Men Tell No Tales.

So with another installment in the franchise potentially in development after this one, it raises a more important question.

Is An Entire New Trilogy In The Works?

The first film in the franchise, The Curse of the Black Pearl, initially appeared to start off as a single-shot feature but developed into an entire trilogy, so a repetition of this formula is not out of the realm of possibility.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales premieres May 26, 2017. Do you think a whole trilogy will be spawned out of this film? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below.
