After 2012's MIB 3 and this year's After Earth, it looks as though may be putting blockbusters on hold to consider American Can, the story following 2005's Hurricane Katrina, one of the five deadliest hurricanes in the history of the US.
According to Deadline, the movie would see Smith taking on the role of John Keller, "a real guy who returned from Gulf War service looking for a new challenge, and found one after Hurricane Katrina devastated his home city of New Orleans". Sony is looking to The Last Samurai and Love and Other Drugs's to direct.
Could Smith be attempting to recapture his exceptional actor status, circa The Pursuit of Happyness and Ali? Let's hope so.
We should know more about Smith's plans when After Earth arrives on May 31st. Until then, [[follow]] to get the latest news as this project develops.
