The MCU will deliver its biggest spectacle yet when Avengers: Infinity War flies into theaters around the world in 2018.

Besides being one of the most expensive productions in recent history, part of the movie’s grand scale is the amount of characters it’ll include. The movie will take inspiration from the Infinity Gauntlet comic arc and while many of the characters from that story will not be making an appearance in the movie due to character rights between studios, there’s a collective who could very well be making their debut: the Sky Fathers.

We’ve already seen one Sky Father in the MCU, Norse King Odin of Asgard. Essentially, the Sky Fathers are deities from mythological tales, possessing cosmic powers and living in pocket dimensions in the Marvel Universe.

Among the Norse gods, mythological deities in the Universe include Zeus from Greek Mythology, Osiris from ancient Egyptian mythology and more.

In Infinity Gauntlet Issue #2, we are introduced to the Sky Fathers, who are constructing a plan to defeat Thanos, by the calling of Odin. Among the aforementioned Odin, Zeus and Osiris, other gods present include the Celtic god Nuada, the Mayan god Itzamna, the Aztec deity Tezcatlipoca, the American Indian spirit Manitou and the Slavic god Svarog. It was said by Odin that only with the combined might of the Sky Fathers, Thanos could be stopped:

“Each of you is the supreme leader of a population of deities and a mighty power in your own right. My mystic senses do warn that the peril we face is of such immense power, that it should take our combined might to overcome it.”

Unfortunately for Odin and the Sky Fathers, their plan was quarreled by Thanos when the Titan destroyed Asgard’s bifrost bridge, trapping all the Sky Fathers in the Norse pocket dimension. It would've been an interesting site seeing what the Sky Fathers could've done against and while they only were a minuscule part of the Infinity Gauntlet comic arc, is it possible that...

The Sky Fathers Could Appear In Avengers: Infinity War

While a possibility, it’s rather unlikely. Mostly because Odin looks to be serving as the sole representation of the Sky Fathers and introducing more mythology into the already-packed MCU could make things rather confusing. Especially now that the is introducing Greek mythology with . Nevertheless, Marvel Studios could use the Sky Fathers as replacements for cosmic characters they can’t use in their films, like Galactus and The Watcher.

It's possible that to fill in the missing slots in their cosmic plane for Avengers: Infinity War, will use characters we've already seen or will see soon in the and the franchises (as is teased in the above clip from Avengers: Age of Ultron). Characters like Grandmaster, Ego the Living Planet and even Dormammu from could be the lucky replacements.

The remaining Sky Fathers would be a fantastic addition to the MCU and while now it might seem unlikely, once the MCU resets after Phase 3, Odin may not be Marvel's only Sky Father to grace the big screen.
