Fans hoping for a Game of Thrones movie were given a little boost of hope by HBO programming president Casey Bloys, who told EW:
"I would say it’s still kind of preliminary ongoing talks. There are areas we are exploring, but I wouldn’t point to any one and say, ‘This is what we’re going to do.’"
Bloys is certainly determined to give us as much #GameofThrones action as possible, including the addition of more episodes to the show's final season, saying:
"I’ll take as much as we can get. I want everything I can get for HBO, I’ll just leave it at that."

We're already dangerously close to completing the Game of Thrones saga on TV show, and with only two more novels remaining, fans need MORE. With a show as successful as Game of Thrones, fans could be forgiven for expecting a movie to eventually emerge. We just want to feast on more Game of Thrones!
Hope for a Game of Thrones movie came in late 2015 when British newspaper received a scoop in September 2015, supposedly from George R.R. Martin:
''There will be a movie but I will not be involved. I have too much to do. That is something HBO and D.B. and David are dealing with. I have two more books to finish and I still have so much to do.''
However, the most recent word from George R.R. Martin himself is not encouraging, dismissing the Game of Thrones movie rumors and the Daily Star report attributed to him on his blog in September 2015, saying:
Yes, completely false. No one is working on any movie just now. And if there was a movie, it would not be about Robert's Rebellion.
Sure, George Martin seems to have crushed our movie hopes like the Mountain That Rides crushes heads, but at least we know how much faith he has in the Game of Thrones gang, calling them ''the great folks at HBO, and the best cast and crew in television.'' If notorious perfectionist Martin can love a TV adaptation of his beloved material, what's to stop him giving his blessing to a Game of Thrones movie in the future?
Is A Game of Thrones Movie Ever Going To Happen?
There are many fantasy series that have never truly received a satisfactory movie treatment, The Golden Compass being a shining example of a book series becoming a global phenomenon but refusing to translate into box office returns.
Game of Thrones writer David Benioff has confirmed that the saga will not be extended into many more seasons, which could mean that film becomes a more viable option. Benioff answered the question "Will there be ten Game of Thrones seasons" flatly:
“No way in hell, because we know what the end is and we’re rapidly approaching it.”
There are many directions a Game of Thrones movie could take, from giving us more time with our dearly departed Starks to exploring territories new with in-world but non-show characters like Dunk and Egg. Or, y'know, rough 'n' ready spin-offs about badass characters like Yara and Arya. I would totally watch this...
