You thought The Walking Dead TV series was good? Well, it's got nothing on the video game developed by Telltale Games. There's a very good reason it beat the gaming behemoths like Black Ops 2 and Assassin's Creed 3 to the most prestigious Game of Year awards. It IS quite literally one of the best games to be developed for a very, very long time. Fact.
The Walking Dead video game weaves storytelling, puzzle solving and action all within a brilliantly realized world inspired by the original Walking Dead comics. At various points my girlfriend was literally in tears regarding the heartbreaking decisions I had to make. Of course, I simply shed a single manly tear, as you'd expect.
With Episode 5 of The Walking Dead game now complete, players have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of Season 2. It's still a way off, but Telltale writer Gary Whitta told IGN we might not have to wait too long to continue the story. He explained:
I can tell you what you already know, which is Season 2 is coming. There’s not much to say because it really is very early. It’s a way off. But, knowing that it’s a way off, and knowing that people are hungry for more Walking Dead, there may very well be more Walking Dead from Telltale before Season 2. We may have something extra for you between Season 1 and 2.
The idea behind this concept is apparently to "make the wait for Season 2 slightly less agonizing."
The wait certainly is agonizing, the cliffhanger ending of Episode 5 was almost unbearable to watch. However, there may be more practical reasons for this decision. Telltale hope to carry over your save games from Season 1 to Season 2, allowing the decisions you made in the first game to affect the sequel. At the moment their still working on the mechanics to solve this, with CEO Dan Connors stating:
This all remains to be seen but we are definitely figuring out how to carry the saves over.
Many console versions of the game suffered from a glitch with corrupted save game files, perhaps this little extra addon can act as an ark to safely store the players data prior to Season 2? Whatever the reason, I'm just glad more Walking Dead is coming our way.
