Deadpool was a hit that nobody expected. It was a low-budget superhero movie full of gore, nudity and profanity. Not only was it considered one of the most successful R-rated films of all time, but one of the most successful superhero movies, period.
But the Merc with a Mouth was just outgrossed by none other than Wonder Woman.
Over the weekend, Wonder Woman's domestic box office hit $368 million, officially surpassing Deadpool's $363 million. Keep in mind that internationally, the Merc's still on top, with a global total of $783 million compared to Patty Jenkins's superhero adventure's $746 million. At the pace it's going, however, I wouldn't be surprised if Deadpool gets surpassed in that area as well.
Boasting his signature humor, the caption read:
"The Merc May Be Filthier, but Her B.O. is Stronger. Congrats 'Wonder Woman.'"
Doubling up on the message's awesomeness, Deadpool's official Twitter account also shared it. That's not where the story ends. #PattyJenkins, being the awesome person that she is, replied to Reynolds, calling him "the greatest" and sharing her love for the Merc with a Mouth's past and future cinematic outings:
Seeing this, I don't know about you, but I'd absolutely love a Diana and #Deadpool team-up. It's hard to think of them going in an adventure together at first, but let's face it, it would be hilarious. You may see their relationship not going well, but weirdly, I can totally picture them hitting it off. Wonder Woman is a kind and loving person, and I'm sure she'd understand Deadpool's questionable attitude.
This Isn't The First Time Ryan Reynolds Has Channeled His Inner Deadpool
The actor likes to have fun on social media, channeling his inner Wade Wilson at any chance he gets. Here are some of the funniest stuff our real-life Deadpool has said on Twitter.
Last year, Deadpool was nominated for two Golden Globes, and the actor shared how the brains behind the movie were celebrating the occasion:
A fan on Twitter shared an adorable picture of her twins dressed as Wolverine and Deadpool for Halloween, tagging Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. Referencing how Deadpool got confused with McAvoy or Stewart as Professor X, Reynolds replied with:
Fans will surely remember Deadpool's tiny hand from his solo movie, which grew back after cutting off to escape Colossus's hand. Well, Reynolds stated the hand in the Logan poster wasn't actually a child's:
It's been said many times: Reynolds is a real-life #Deadpool, and it was hilarious to see him apply his signature humor to Wonder Woman's triumph. I'm not gonna lie, I sometimes think he's even more hilarious than his character. Please stay awesome, Mr. Reynolds. We'll get to see the actor return as the Merc with a Mouth when #Deadpool2 crashes into theaters on June 1, 2018. Wonder Woman is currently in theaters.
