There has been a ton of anticipation for #WonderWoman, the latest instalment in the DC Extended Universe. The Gal Gadot-led film has received glowing reviews from critics and fans alike, and currently holds a 93 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, a feat unheard of for a #DCEU film and better than any Marvel Cinematic Universe movie except for the first Iron Man.
With praise flowing in from every corner of the world, Wonder Woman was bound to do well at the box office — and it looks like things are even better than expected for the Amazon princess's first solo outing. The Patty Jenkins-directed film soared to $11 million following the Thursday night previews in North American theaters.
Wonder Woman had the third largest North American preview numbers this year after Guardians Of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (which earned $17 million) and Beauty and The Beast (which earned $16.3 million). According to The Hollywood Reporter, the audience was evenly split between female and male moviegoers. The film is projected to take $95 million in North American theaters during its opening weekend.
Wonder Woman is the fourth installment in the DCEU franchise after 2013's Man of Steel and last year's combo of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad. Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman first appeared in Batman v. Superman, but Patty Jenkins's film shows how Diana evolved from an Amazon princess into a fearless superhero.
