Director is an action movie legend, delivering highly stylized, high octane flicks with double-gun shootouts and doves. Lots and lots of doves. There have been rumors that he was being considered to direct The Expendables 3, and it seems that Woo could indeed be persuaded to blow up various objects in slow motion with Sly and the gang. In a recent interview, he revealed:

I am a big fan of all those guys and I will do it but I want less studio and producer interference. I want to shoot the movie the way I want. That's the difference making a movie in China and Hollywood. In China, The Studio and producer allow flexibility to the director. One thing for sure is, I want it to take place in China. Holy smokes, a John Woo-directed Expendables would be amazing! Let's be honest, the man knows how to craft an action scene (think The Killer and Face Off), so imagine what he could do working with Willis, Schwarzenegger, Stallone and an additional bevy of action legends. Sign me up now, I'm all in.

Studio interference could be a stumbling block for any Expendable/Woo collaboration though. I can't imagine he will be given complete free reign to bring his own style of action mayhem to the party, especially with a movie budgeted close to a $100 million, and would Stallone really be willing to give him total control over his baby?

This is still very much a rumor at this stage, but seeing Woo team up again with Nic "I could suck on a peach for hours" Cage is surely too good an opportunity to miss.

The Expendables 3 is estimated to hit theaters sometime in 2014, and you can get all the explosive updates by going here [[follow]].
