Variety are reporting that sources claim the Hunger Games and upcoming War for the Planet of the Apes actor Woody Harrelson is being eyed to join the upcoming Han Solo film as the titular character's mentor.
Sources have told Variety that whilst the actor is currently in very early talks, he is indeed the top choice for the role.
Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover and Emilia Clarke are the only confirmed cast members for the Star Wars spin-off film, with Ehrenreich taking on the iconic role of Solo made famous by Harrison Ford.
The film will be set before the events of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope and presumably before the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which recently opened with great success.
Woody Harrelson is a very busy actor these days. In 2016 alone he starred in Now You See Me 2, Triple 9 and the brilliant The Edge of Seventeen. Next year you can see him battle apes in the highly anticipated War for the Planet of the Apes.
Harrelson was never on my radar to join a Star Wars project, but I'm actually pretty excited about the possibility. Harrelson has always been a very dynamic and entertaining actor who can play just about anything. Some of his finest performances include True Detective Season 1, Out of the Furnace and most recently The Edge of Seventeen. As far as his character goes, this will most likely be an original character created for the film as we've never really seen a mentor type character when it comes to Han Solo.
The Han Solo movie is currently slated for a May 2018 release, although recent reports suggest that Lucasfilm are debating a move to December 2018. The film will be directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller.
Do you hope Woody Harrelson gets the job?
