UPDATE: Mashable spoke with Woody Harrelson about his role in the Han Solo anthology film and the actor teased us with the first bit of information. Here's the live video the news source shared on their Facebook page:
Most of the Star Wars hype right now revolves around the highly anticipated sequel Star Wars: Episode VIII, which is releasing this December. However, it is not the only intriguing Star Wars movie slated for release. The 2018 anthology movie takes aim at a young Han Solo.
Harrison Ford will not be returning to the role (for obvious reasons), which will be re-casted with Alden Ehrenreich, who is a pretty funny actor and most Star Wars fans are willing to give him a chance. We haven't heard much about the upcoming spin-off movie aside from a few casting decisions, but now one of Hollywood's biggest badasses is joining Han Solo for this epic adventure.
Woody Harrelson Is Officially Cast
After rumors about talks between the actor and Lucasfilm, Woody Harrelson has officially been cast in the Han Solo film. Disney and Lucasfilm announced the casting Wednesday morning via press release on StarWars.com. The official statement reads:
"'We couldn't be more excited to work with an artist with as much depth and range as Woody,' directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller said in the release. 'His ability to find both humor and pathos, often in the same role, is truly unique.' They also added, 'He is also very good at ping pong.'"
Personally, I think Woody Harrelson is a fantastic actor and that he will make a great addition to the cast. Along with Alden Ehrenreich, the cast also includes comedian Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian and Game of Thrones' Emilia Clarke as the main female lead. As obvious as it is, it's also noteworthy to add that Chewbacca will make his way into the film.

Woody Harrelson's role isn't confirmed, but rumors suggest that he will be placed into a mentor role to our favorite smuggler. If this is true, it will be really good for the Han Solo character. We have never seen any type of mentor for Han and an actor like Harrelson could definitely fill that void. No matter what though, I'm very excited to see what Harrelson will bring to the table.
