Today is a sad day, for we've discovered that Woody Harrelson no longer smokes marijuana. And he hasn't smoked for over a year — as if you needed yet another reason to hate the monumental buzzkill that was 2016.
Not all is lost though, for his personality basically remains the same: The 55-year-old actor still seems stoned AF. Or he does according to Vulture Magazine, who recently hosted a hilarious interview with the #Wilson star. Describing his words as "stretched like taffy," the topic of bud arose while discussing misconceptions people have about him:
“They think I am a party animal. But on the other hand, I haven’t… I’m now extremely moderate, and… I actually stopped smoking pot almost a year ago.”
The news comes as a surprise — this is a guy who applied to open Hawaii's first medical marijuana dispensary in February last year, after all. So, what happened?
“[It was] just 30 solid years of just partying too f—ing hard. I don’t have a problem at all with smoking. I think it’s great. I think it’s a great drug, in terms of… Even cops say that the side effect is euphoria. Or the … what do you call it?… The effect of it is euphoria. But when you’re doing it all the time, it just becomes… Well, you know. I feel like it was keeping me from being emotionally available.”

You'd think that after 30 years of doing something pretty much solidly, and it becoming a passion project of sorts — as #WoodyHarrelson seems to have done, via the tidbit on herb strains below — it would be a pretty tough habit to break. But this dude is one tough cookie:
“Last night, someone had not just good herb, but sativa — really good sativa. There’s a joint, and beautifully rolled. I like a beautifully rolled… and I just was like, I mean, I’ve gone this long. It would be weird to just be like, ‘Okay, let me have a hit off that,’ and then suddenly go back to smoking too much.”
And what to do if it all gets too much? Have a beer, of course — nobody becomes a monk overnight.
Harrleson's next project is a movie called Wilson, which no, isn't about Tom Hank's long-lost Castaway companion. Wilson tells the tale of a lonely and neurotic middle-aged dude who a) is extremely socially awkward b) insists on chatting topics of the universe with complete strangers, and c) tries to rope his estranged wife into finding their long lost daughter. And it looks great, check out the trailer below:
