The younger team of X-Men from First Class and Apocalypse will be taking on their biggest challenge yet with next year's X-Men: Dark Phoenix. The movie will adapt the beloved comic book storyline in which Jean Grey becomes possessed by the Phoenix Force. Details have been scarce, but now fans have a giant new batch of information.

'X-Men: Dark Phoenix' Has A Director

According to the Hollywood Reporter, will make his directorial debut for the movie, confirming previous rumors that he would take over from Bryan Singer. He previously served as a producer on X-Men: First Class, X-Men: Days of Future Past and Deadpool, so I'm excited to see what he has to offer to the X-Men universe as a director.

Who's Returning To Face The Dreaded Dark Phoenix?

According to the report, Fox will bring back (Charles Xavier), (Magneto), (Mystique) and (Beast) after their original three-picture deal expired. Magneto's relationship with Xavier was left in a very interesting place at the end of , so I'm curious to see how it develops, now that he's not constantly trying to take down the merry band of mutants.

As for Jennifer Lawrence, it's been a bit of a task to figure out whether her character would be back, but now we know. Considering how we last saw her as the team leader of the X-Men, she'll probably have a big role in the film. Furthermore, the young cast members who made their debut in Apocalypse, (Jean Grey), (Cyclops), (Storm) and (Nightcrawler) are all returning. Essentially, Dark Phoenix will be one big X-Men: Apocalypse reunion, although it's very doubtful we'll have another Hugh Jackman cameo.

Jessica Chastain Is In Talks To Play An Important Marvel Character

This was perhaps the report's biggest surprise. is in talks to join the movie as Lilandra Niramani, according to THR. For those of you out there who haven't read the comics and just went "huh?", Lilandra is a pivotal player in the Dark Phoenix storyline.

As part of the alien Shi'ar race, she sought the Xavier's help to overthrow her tyrannical brother. Thanks to our beloved group of superheroes, she managed to gain control of her people, but it was thanks to that little field-trip that obtains the power of the Phoenix. But as we've seen in The Last Stand and Apocalypse, Jean already has the Phoenix as an alter-ego.

Taking that into consideration, we're not entirely sure how the new film will connect the previous continuity to the heavy dose of outer-space goodness, but it seems the intention is to stick much closer to the comics. The previous films have been fairly grounded in reality, aside from the superpowers and giant killer robots, so the deep space adventure will be a major tonal shift.

That's all the information on for now. These pieces of information just made us a whole lot more excited for the film.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix will hit theaters on November 2, 2018.

What do you think about all the new X-Men: Dark Phoenix details? What do you think about Simon Kinberg directing? Let me know in the comments!
