2018 is set to bring us a triple-dose of mutant goodness in the form of Deadpool 2, New Mutants, and last, but not least, X-Men: Dark Phoenix. As the seventh of Fox's tentpole X-Men movies, this film promises to build on major plot elements last seen in the dramatic final act of X-Men: Apocalypse. There, Sophie Turner's Jean Grey unleashed her power in a devastating attack upon the titular villain, one that doesn't bode well for Earth. After all, Jean also had a vision of the world burning with fire in X-Men: Apocalypsepossibly even Phoenix fire...

The film is now shooting in Montreal, Canada, and naturally we're gradually learning more and more about who's going to appear, so without further ado, here is the confirmed (and rumored) cast of X-Men: Dark Phoenix...

Alexandra Shipp as Storm

The second actress to play the part of Storm, Alexandra Shipp was introduced in last year's . There, she wielded power on a level we'd never seen Storm show in the movies before, and even proved herself worthy as a Horseman of Apocalypse. Nobody was surprised when Storm switched sides during the final battle, and Apocalypse ended with her becoming one of the most powerful members of the X-Men yet.

Evan Jonigkeit as Toad (Rumored)

Evan Jonigkeit was recruited to play a young version of Toad in X-Men: Days of Future Past, and there are rumors that he's set to return. This would make sense, as initial reports suggest that Magneto will become some sort of cult leader in X-Men: Dark Phoenix, which means that the ultra-agile, tongue-whipping mutant would be likely to follow him.

Evan Peters as Quicksilver

Is anybody surprised to hear that Fox wanted Evan Peters to reprise his role as ? The fan-favorite super-speedster has proved to be a highlight of the last two X-Men films, particularly after Fox spent a small fortune creating phenomenal action sequences centered around his powers. Given this, we can safely assume we'll see another stand-out Quicksilver scene in Dark Phoenix.

Gregg Lowe as Ink (Rumored)

Gregg Lowe's Ink was introduced in Days of Future Past, and freed from William Stryker by Mystique. We last saw the character watching Magneto's 1973 speech on television, and he seemed sympathetic. Odds are high that if Gregg Lowe is indeed reprising the role, he'll be another one of Magneto's agents.

A lesser-known X-Men character, Ink's powers are derived from the tattoos across his body. Each tattoo represents a different power, and in the comics, his abilities have ranged from the power to generate explosions to an actual Phoenix-Force-facsimile!

Halston Sage as Dazzler (Rumored)

Dark Phoenix is finally set to introduce the mutant pop sensation, and fans are eagerly awaiting news regarding who will play her. There are rumors that the role has been cast for quite a while, and Sage was in Montreal with the cast at a Hans Zimmer concert. More recently, Omega Underground caught a since-deleted photo by one of the stuntmen, which identified Sage as Dazzler among head shots of confirmed cast members. This rumor looks pretty solid.

James McAvoy as Professor Xavier

James McAvoy may hate having his head shaved for the part, but he's still agreed to roll up as Charles Xavier once again. Dark Phoenix is sure to test Earth's mightiest telepath like never before. The last time we saw Xavier cross minds with Jean Grey (in X-Men: The Last Stand), it didn't exactly go well for the Professor.

But Jean Grey's limitless Phoenix powers won't be the only challenge facing Xavier. With Magneto returning (possibly as a sort of cult leader), we're set to once again see the kind of ideological clash that's key to the X-Men franchise.

Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique

In the comics (and the first film trilogy), the shapeshifting Mystique is a super-villain. The last few films have gradually transformed Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique though, turning her into an actual field leader for the X-Men. Fans are divided over this character arc, but the simple fact is that Jennifer Lawrence remains a key Hollywood player and there's no way that Fox will give her a small part.

Jessica Chastain as Lilandra

Confirmed as the villain of the film, Jessica Chastain is playing the part of Lilandra. We don't yet know how X-Men: Dark Phoenix is going to adapt the character, who in the comics went on to become Charles Xavier's long-standing lover!

Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler

The beloved blue elf has always been popular with X-Men fans, and Apocalypse introduced us to a delightful new version of the hero in the form of Kodi Smit-McPhee. He's always been the heart and soul of the X-Men, a passionate romantic who sees the best in everyone. How will Nightcrawler handle Jean Grey's descent into darkness?

Kota Eberhardt as Luna

Kota Eberhardt (The Persian Connection) has been signed on as 'Luna.' Most fans believe this to be a code-name for another character, hiding her true identity from fans — for now...

Lamar Johnson In A Mystery Role

Another mystery character, Lamar Johnson (The Next Step, Apple Mortgage Cake) is signed up for an unknown role.

Michael Fassbender as Magneto

Fans are a little divided over Michael Fassbender's role in Dark Phoenix. The character doesn't appear in the original comic book arc that the film is based on at all, suggesting that we're going to see a substantial rewrite. There are rumors that the Magneto of Dark Phoenix has taken on a sort of Messianic role, ruling the mutant nation of Genosha and leading a religious group known as the Acolytes.

Nicholas Hoult as Beast

Introduced as one of the original X-Men back in First Class, Nicholas Hoult's Beast has become a central part of the franchise. Nobody was surprised to hear the character is returning in Dark Phoenix.

Olivia Munn as Psylocke (Rumored)

Criminally underused in Apocalypse, Psylocke is one of the most alluring X-Men characters. A powerful ninja psychic, Olivia Munn's Psylocke was first introduced as one of Apocalypse's Horsemen. We don't know for sure that Psylocke is appearing in Dark Phoenix, but Munn has certainly headed out to Montreal at just the time the movie's being filmed.

Given Psylocke wasn't established as a member of the X-Men at the end of Apocalypse, we can presume that she's allied with Magneto as one of his Acolytes.

Scott Shepherd as Dr. John Grey

As Dark Phoenix is set to focus on Jean Grey, it makes sense that we'll meet her parents too. Scott Shepherd has been cast as Dr. John Grey, Jean's father, who has become a dearly-loved supporting character among fans. We can presume that John will appear in a flashback scene, given that Summer Fontana appears to have been cast as a young Jean Grey. With that being said though, it's also possible that Dr. Grey will make an appearance in the movie's main arc. In the comics, the love of Jean's parents was one of the anchors that helped her hold onto her humanity.

Sophie Turner as Jean Grey

Apocalypse introduced us to Sophie Turner's Jean Grey, and set up a massive character arc. In many ways, the film was essentially the 'apocalypse' (or 'unveiling' of Jean Grey, revealing the power of the Phoenix all while depicting an ominous vision of the world burned by fire. It's distinctly possible that Jean's vision didn't involve nuclear fire, as she thought though. Rather, she saw Phoenix fire.

At the end of the day, Sophie Turner's return was guaranteed. You simply can't move the plot forward without Jean Grey.

Summer Fontana as (probably) young Jean Grey

Best known for playing Hope in The Originals, Summer Fontana has been confirmed to have joined the cast of X-Men: Dark Phoenix. She's most likely playing a young Jean Grey, suggesting that we'll see a flashback scene of some kind in the final release.

Tye Sheridan as Cyclops

Rounding out the confirmed cast for now is Tye Sheridan, who took on the role of Cyclops in last year's Apocalypse. Sheridan had already confirmed that he's signed up to a repeat contract, so the young star was always a safe bet for this film.

So there you have it, fans! If the rumors are true, we can expect to hear a lot more casting news going forward. For now, though, the main X-Men have gathered, and their enemies are waiting in the wings. One of their greatest members is about to fall — and the world may perish as a result...
