Everyone at Paramount is rewriting the past this week. G.I. Joe: Retaliation was notoriously plagued by reshoots and rewrites -- typically bad signs for how a movie is going to do with audiences. Difficulties or not, the film shot to the box office over Easter weekend to the tune of $54.7 million.

Now, Paramount and Hasbro have made it clear that G.I. Joe 3 is happening. Unfortunately, won't be back. However, if this weekend proved anything, it's that this might as well be 's franchise. No cast has been confirmed, but you can expect some big names to return after how well the first weekend went.

I think it's probably just as important that Paramount really try to get to return as director. With this and the Step Up franchise and Never Say Never, he's proven himself as a pop culture powerhouse with some pretty slick sequences that appeal to a lot of people.

Do you check out G.I. Joe: Retaliation this weekend?
