Do you remember the days when you watched a movie and the good guys were good, and the bad guys were bad? When the good guys wore white hats? Yeah, it’s been a long time since we had a movie like that. Thank goodness they made The Lone Ranger.

I found this movie to be charming and highly entertaining. This movie succeeded where a lot of recent films have failed. You have no issues believing John Reid is a young man seeking justice in the Wild West. He is a man with strong beliefs about right and wrong, and won’t be swayed with whatever way the wind blows. Conversely you also have no issues believing Butch Cavendish is a villain motivated by evil. The good guys wear white and the bad guys wear black and this movie takes you on a wild west ride that is fun and entertaining.

Brilliantly acted by both Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp in the lead roles of the Lone Ranger and Tonto respectively. I admit I was nervous when I heard Depp had been given the role of Tonto. I feared that it was being done strictly as a publicity stunt to add star power to the movie. But Depp brought his A game. Showing not only respect for the character of Tonto, but adding new depth to a character that people have known so well for so long.

Armie Hammer not only was excellent in the role, he made me believe in good guys again. A good guy that doesn’t kill, he is a man with a code of justice that he sticks to. He brought charm and light heartedness to the role. I found myself smiling over the fact that I was watching a good guy on the big screen again, and Armie Hammer made me believe it was true.

William Fichtner who plays Butch Cavendish (the main protagonist of the film) does a wonderful job of making you hate him. He is the quintessential old west villain. Motivated by greed and blood lust, he is definitely not a villain you feel bad for at the end. In my opinion one of the best performances of the year.

It’s a shame that this movie may not be a blockbuster as predicted by some people. it’s a great movie harking back to the golden age of cinema, with modern effects, beautiful cinematography and wonderful acting. In an age of anti-heroes and questionable motivations in our movies, do yourself a favor and see the Lone Ranger this summer, this is a great American story and this movie tells that story wonderfully.
