I am not one for finding meaning in first trailers, but Pompeii with its ashes, eruptions and its most incredible special effect-- a totally ripped Kit Harrington (Jon Snow of Game of Thrones), seems like a directorial statement from W.S. Anderson to melt away his Resident Evil past and emerge anew as the master of historical action spectaculars like his 3 Musketeers. The trailer has one of the best visual jokes intentional or not this year: slow ashes fall as the camera reveals the charred corpses of some of Pompeii's finest-- and then the big eruption occurs-- the buff Harrington clad in the finest gladiator leather walking slowly towards the camera. No better way to mingle sex, death and volcanic explosions. Harrington is there to get his girl (Emily Browning) and her family (Jared Harris and Carrie-Anne Moss) before the whole city goes to hell in spectacular red-hot volcanic meteorite showers.
