Shailene Woodley is a "Divergent". An unclassifiable personality type (check out the infographic below for the others) and clearly gets singled out to be the underground poster child for those who don't fit in. Divergent desperately wants to be the next Hunger Games wannabe. (Odd how these YA adaptations stress individuality but don't show enough true originality to make them unpopular.)
The trailer is pitched for a tween crowd. It's full of big obvious moments and Katniss like photo-ops that make Shailene Woodley look from certain angles like Jennifer Lawrence. Miles Teller, Jai Courtney, Zoe Kravitz, Maggie Q, Ansel Elgort, Mekhi Phifer, Ray Stevenson and Ashley Judd are among the Divergent cast, with Kate Winslet providing evil parental authority.
Divergent is based on the series of novels by Veronica Roth about a YA dystopian society-- meaning the parents and authority figures don't let the kids be themselves-- in revolution with the conformists that seek to define their very thoughts and lifestyle choices. It smell like teen spirit to me. Divergent opens March 21, 2014.
