Disney animated Frozen is a modern retelling of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Snow Queen.

The poster shows the main characters up to their neck in snowdrifts, but presumably happy, because the thaw between them is starting to melt.

The princess on the right snowbank is Elsa, voiced and sung by Broadway star Idina Menzel. Elsa is technically a super-Princess since she has the power to control ice and snow.

Elsa is forced to leave the kingdom of Arendelle since she broke her promise to her parents to keep her powers secret by accidentally revealing them to her clumsy older mortal sister, Anna, (in the left snowbank) voiced by Kristen Bell.

Elsa’s departure leaves Arendelle in perpetual winter. Anna helped by rugged mountain man Kristoff (far right snowbank), voiced by Jonathan Groff, and magical snowman Olaf (middle snowbank), voiced by Josh Gad, go off on a journey to find Elsa and hopefully restore the other wonders of Arendelle hidden under the snow.

The odd character out on snowbank left is Hans, Elsa’s intended, voiced by Santino Fontana.

Veteran Disney animators Jenifer Lee and Chris Buck direct the magic.

Frozen opens November 27th.
