In the old days (meaning 80’s and 90’s) superhero films were mostly for fans, but nowadays they are the top grossing films of each year, and some- like The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises, have even made their way into the top grossing list of all-time.

So its very clear why studios are all over the genre, lining-up films of characters even comic-fans have already forgotten existed. But choosing the right hero is pretty easy, you just look up the online lists of most popular superhero's, choose one and just go for it. The harder part is choosing the villains.

And in my opinion this is where studios and filmmakers fail tremendously and usually when a villain is bad, the film will do much worse.

Trading Doctor Octopus for Kingpin

Spider-Man 2 was probably the least successful film out of the Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, and Doctor Octopus is probably to blame for it. I mean if he’s such a genius, why go for octopus arms? Don't get me wrong the special effects in this film were really great, but Doc Ock is such an ancient Spider-Man villain and something there just wasn't working.

Now Kingpin on the other hand is one of the most loved and interesting villains around, number 10 in IGN’s top-100 villains list. And although he was already “used” (badly) in Ben Affleck’s Daredevil film, this villain is in desperate need of a second chance on the silver screen.

Kingpin is like Yoda, but opposite, he’s huge and fat, but can fight like a ballerina.

X-Men have the coolest Villains!

The X-Men films are great, no doubt about it, the problem is that are a lot of the villains in each film and only one or two get most of the focus. How many films can Magento lead? Magneto is actually an example for a character that was wonderfully adapted to the screen. But other than Mystique, who remembers Pyro or Toad??

X-Men needs a new frontman villain! Unfortunately, X-Men: Days of Future Past, which will be released next year, will probably disappoint in this category as well... Once again bringing back the same old characters. What about Apocalypse or The Skrulls, don't they deserve a chance?

All I have to say is, thank god for Thanos and Ultron via The Avengers!
