Kellan Lutz is not the only Hercules coming to the big screen in 2014. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is the other.
Lutz gets first honors thou with Hercules: The Legend Begins currently scheduled for a March 2014 release and The Rock's Hercules: The Thracian Wars coming out four months later in July.
The Rock version costs $110 million and the Lutz version a little less than 1% of that with most of that probably going towards the cool Roman armor featured on The Legend Begins first cast and character poster.
In a leap of insight director Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2) changed the title from Hercules: 3D once it became apparent the budget didn't provide enough money for 3D camera, film stock or even lousy post conversion.
The trailer looks like Hercules: The Legend Begins was filmed during downtime for Showtime's Spartacus series.
Both The Rock and Lutz have a long ways to go to erase the muscle bound and burly bearded Steve Reeves from the popular imagination. One of my funniest childhood memories was listening to my mom chant Steve Reeves! Steve Reeves! during the Saturday afternoon broadcast of the weekly sword and sandal flick.
