Hot on the heels of talk of Star Wars: Episode VII‘s possible title, it appears that Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is going to be getting a subtitle. Many felt that the Spidey sequel wouldn’t be called simply The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but then promotional material has confirmed that as the path that Sony is looking to go. It appears that the studio is looking to slap a nice little subtitle to the picture now, though.

At a recent preview screening of the Tom Hanks-starring Captain Phillips, audiences were asked for feedback on several possible subtitles for the upcoming Spider-Man flick. CBM has the scoop, with one attendee saying

“Before the showing there were Sony people there from their marketing arm asking for people’s opinion on Amazing Spider-Man 2 subtitles. There were three subtitles they were testing, but I forget one of them. The two I remember were The Amazing Spider-Man: Price of Power. The second one was The Amazing Spider-Man: With Great Power.”

So, if the above is correct, it seems that Sony are looking to use the whole Electro/electricity/power tag. That said, the two suggestions both seem rather lame. I guess that the subtitles could also tie in to the old adage of ‘with great power comes great responsibility,’ although we didn’t see those words uttered by Martin Sheen’s Uncle Ben before he popped his clogs. That said, Sheen is confirmed to appear in some form in the sequel.

The Spidey sequel will see Peter Parker looking to juggle his high school graduation, his affection for Gwen Stacy and his promise to her father that he will stay away from her, and the small matter of a couple of supervillains – namely Electro and Rhino.

Andrew Garfield returns as Pater Parker/Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Sally Field as Aunt May and Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben. Joining them is Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn, Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn, Jamie Foxx as Electro and Paul Giamatti as Rhino. There’s also an unknown role for Sarah Gadon and Felicity Jones, with Jones confirmed to be playing a villain who is tied to the Green Goblin.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is released on 18th April, 2014.
