The Double starring Jesse Eisenberg and directed by Richard Ayoade isn't the only Doppelganger movie being released this year. The Enemy with Jake Gyllenhaal is the other. The Double is just the comedy to the tragedy of life offered by The Enemy's tragedy is the comedy of life point of view.

The movie is based on Fyodor Dostoyevsky's novel about a man whose life begins to unravel once he glimpses his doppelganger, but with a Brazil-type edge. Eisenberg plays both Simon James the mild-mannered office drone who pines for Mia Wasikowska by day only to witness his duplicitous double James Simon steal her away at night.

Virtually the entire cast of Ayoade's first feature, Submarine pop up in cameo roles: Paddy Considine, Craig Roberts and Yasmin Paige.

Speaking at the BFI London Film Festival's gala screening, Eisenberg revealed this about his double workload: "It was two characters, so it was the equivalent of doing two different roles, except that each character needs the other to exist so it's not exactly like doing two separate movies."

The cast posters have a Rorschach blot quality neatly dividing the two leads into whatever happy or sad quality one wishes to see first. The creepy blackout eyes on Jesse Eisenberg's sheet echo the slightly sinister look in Mia Wasikowska's. The pair that looks made for each other are currently dating in real life.

Expect to see The Double sometime next year.
