It's always fun to hear your name in the movies. Even if it's just a supporting character, listening to your favorite actors toss your name around gives the movie an extra bit of fun. But there have only been a handful of famous movie Dougs. So being a movie reviewing Doug, I thought they should get some love this week.

If I had included other forms of entertainment besides movies, there are a couple of notable Dougs that might have made my list, like Dr. Douglas "Doogie" Howser. Doogie Howser M.D. is not a show I ever watched, but since the title character was played by the great Neil Patrick Harris, it's now a very legen...wait for it...dary pick. And Dr. Doug Ross played by George Clooney on the hit show E.R. would have certainly been a contender if I had included TV shows.

My list of runners up isn't as memorable as those two TV characters. The only other ones in contention were Doug 'The Head' Denovitz from Snatch, Doug McKenzie from Strange Brew and Doug from The Hangover series. So with them out of the way, here are my Top 5 Movie Characters Named Doug!

5. Douglas Dorsey (D.B. Sweeney) in The Cutting Edge:

After this movie came out, many of my college friends, including my future wife quoted the line, "Douglas, you silly thing," to me incessantly. The fondness I have for the quote outweighs the lack of love I have for the film.

4. Dug the Dog (Bob Peterson) in Pixar's Up:

If I was a braver man I would use the line, "My name is Dug. I have just met you, and I love you," more often. Fun fact, Bob Peterson is also the voice of Roz in Monsters Inc.

3. Doug Paging aka Suitor #1 (Jeremy London) in Mallrats:

Technically, Ethan Flower plays Doug Paging, but after Jay and Silent Bob take him out of the equation, London takes his place, name and all, on the game show. Jay's scream of, "Do it, Doug!" remains a great moment for Dougs everywhere.

2. Douglas Quaid (Arnold Schwarzenegger) in Total Recall:

Doug is not a name that normally inspires muscular Mars missions. Doug is more an internet movie critic name. But I'm glad Arnold gave it a whirl. A more muscular Doug there has never been.

1. Doug MacRay (Ben Affleck) in The Town:

I love The Town. It's such a fun heist movie. As the guys over at Filmspotting said, it's like a mix of Heat and Good Will Hunting. Whereas you never really believe Arnold's name is Doug, Affleck nails it, and is easily the coolest movie Doug of all time.
