It appears that business is picking up lately when it comes to Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. Well, the director has been speaking to Empire to give a little more info on the actual plot of the time-travelling epic.

Singer revealed that the older cast – the likes of Halle Berry’s Storm, Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen’s Magneto, Shawn Ahsmore’s Iceman, and Daniel Cudmore’s Colossus – will only actually appear in about 25% of the film. The director said, “The past is most of it,” before revealing that the future scenes take place in 2023. Differing from the comic-book arc of the same name, Days of Future Past focuses on Ellen Page’s Kitty Pryde sending Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine back in time to the 1970s to stop an apocalyptic future. Singer added,

“It’s about figuring your rules and sticking to them. The principal [of time travel] looked at is this theory that until an object is observed, it hasn’t really happened yet. The time-traveller whose consciousness travels through time I call The Observer, and until The Observer returns to where he travelled from, the result hasn’t occurred yet. So he can muck about in the past and it isn’t until he snaps back that the new future is set. As a result, we’re able to have parallel action, and there’s an underlying tension because there’s always that threat Wolverine’s consciousness could return and leave the world in an even darker place.”

Singer also confirmed that Professor X’s school has been closed for roughly 10 years, which is why the past X-Men team is no longer together.

Forming quite the ensemble cast, the film sees James McAvoy as the younger Professor X, Patrick Stewart as the older Professor X, Michael Fassbender as the younger Magneto, Ian McKellen as the older Magneto, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Halle Berry as Storm, Ellen Page as Kitty Pryde, Anna Paquin as Rogue, Shawn Ashmore as Iceman, Daniel Cudmore as Colossus, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique. Evan Peters as Quicksilver, Omar Sy as Bishop, Fan Binbing as Blink, Lucas Till as Havok, Peter Dinklage as Bolivar Trask and Josh Helman as a young William Stryker. It also seems as if Booboo Stewart will be playing Warpath, with an as yet unconfirmed role for Adan Canto. There’s also strong reports that James Marsden will be returning as Cyclops.

X-Men: Days of Future Past will be released on 23rd May, 2014.
