Best known for his time as Freddy Krueger, Robert Englund’s next appearance is in the British thriller The Last Showing. Released next year, the first images from the film have surfaced online.

Written and directed by Phil Hawkins, the film tells the story of a young couple, Martin (Jones) and Allie (Berrington), who become trapped in their local cinema, then made into unwilling actors for a movie that is being recorded on CCTV. Behind all of this is twisted projectionist Stuart (Englund), who looks to play the lovebirds off against one another, leading to a climax that will only leave one survivor.

As it happens, the movie was filmed in the actual city of my birth, which is a mere 15-minute drive from where I sit right now. I also got to chat about the film with Englund during a recent interview. Sadly, rather than seizing the moment to sit down and have a face-to-face with the horror icon, I was completely unaware of The Last Showing, and was carrying out a phone interview with him to promote the cinematic rerelease of A Nightmare on Elm Street. Either way, what he said of the film sounded very promising, and I’ll maybe try to dig out the audio of the interview to use here.

No exact release date is set at this point, but the film is due to hit in early 2014.
