“Hobo with a Shotgun” (2011) Movie Review

Hello, this is horrorfan79 with another movie for you to enjoy, Hobo with a Shotgun. Hobo with a Shotgun is currently streaming through Netflix and is not rated. This movie is geared toward those horror fans who love cheesy, cult classic, B-movies.

Hobo with a Shotgun is about a homeless man doing what he can to survive and trying to follow his dreams. He crosses paths with some not-so-savory criminal types and becomes a vigilante hero in the process.

Rutger Hauer is excellent! I cheered for him the entire film. The seriousness and sincerity he brings to all his films combined with the comedic movie material is such a perfect match. This movie is very over-the-top but it fits. Those of us who find love and worth in such movies as Street Trash, The Toxic Avenger, and Nuke'em High will definitely see the appeal. The guts and gore are primarily practical effects. It’s refreshing to see a movie not entirely reliant on green screen and CGI.

This movie was born and produced to not be taken seriously. By no means is this comment to be seen as a negative critique, to the contrary, I love this movie. I had a smile on my face throughout this film. As a child I would watch USA Up All Night and this movie was reminiscent of those features. I feel that on a list of under-appreciated, underrated movies, this would be towards the top of that list. IMDb gave this movie a 6.0 but taking the movie for what it is worth, I would give it a 9.
