So, everyone is rumoring casting for Lex Luthor in Batman vs. Superman, and though most of these rumors are unfounded, I would like to throw a suggestion into the mix. Now I can not take credit as this idea was not my own, and I was originally critical of it. But I did some research and found Matt Damon would likely make a very good Lex Luther, and here is why.
Everyone rumored as of yet for Luthor has a somewhat grizzled, angry persona associated with their character, and don't get me wrong, I think Bryan Cranston or Terry O'Quinn are excellent actors and would do an amazing job at portraying the Lex, but DC describes him as, "a modern renaissance man and the standard for human personal achievement...(with) the charisma of a natural leader". Now if it came down to a vote for a politician, and you were only given a picture of Matt Damon, Cranston, and O'Quinn, we know that most likely, Damon would come out ahead. He has that charisma, and he has that modern renaissance man look about him. And we know he can pull off the politics based on his role in The Adjustment Bureau.
Again, there is no rumor here, I know as much as you, and I know one of the largest complaints would relate to the fact that Damon and Ben Affleck are good friends, but we cannot be so narrow sighted on this option. We know Damon's a great actor and we know the two have chemistry and have worked together many times. In fact, if the film went the route of having Lex initially reach out to Batman we could even see some friendship near the start, making the betrayal that much more heartbreaking when Lex turns bad. Anyway, I'm open to discussion, please comment with any ideas of who you would like to see playing Lex Luthor in the film.
