Let's run through the names of some fantastic composers, shall we... We have John Williams, Christopher Drake, Alexandre Desplat, just to name a few... But there is one composer who stands out (at least for me) above them all and his name is Hans Zimmer.
Zimmer has done some truly amazing work on films and even video games. Some of his best work includes The Dark Knight Trilogy, Pirates Of The Carribean 2-4, Inception, Sherlock homes 1 and 2, Man Of Steel and is presently working on the soundtrack for Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
For me, the soundtrack of a movie means a lot. It helps set the scene and mood of a movie, whether it's calm and relaxing, or suspenseful and fast-paced. What makes me such a fan of Hans Zimmer is that he is one of the few composers that can do all of those types of music to perfection.
When he was announced to be doing the soundtrack for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, I was ecstatic, as I'm sure many others were. Now, the composer for the first Amazing Spider-Man movie, James Horner, did very well with the soundtrack, but I just didn't feel it at some points. The best songs from his soundtrack were Saving New York, Ben's death, and Becoming Spider-Man. The rest were just decent. They were good, but could have been so much better. Hans Zimmer will definitely bring something different to The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Knowing that this is also the first Spider-Man movie he is working on also makes me curious, but not worried at all.
So, to close, is Hans Zimmer the best composer today? My answer is yes. Let me know what you all think in the comments below.
