The Hunger Games: Catching Fire?
Does Catching Fire have a chance at getting a Best Picture nomination come January 16th? The film has a lot of stiff competition from the films mentioned above but Catching Fire is critically adored (currently at an 89 percent on Rotten Tomatoes) and will make a ton of money. Despite the Academy's tendency to go with more artsy films right now those two things do bode well for Catching Fire.
The biggest question will be how American Hustle and The Wolf of Wall Street are received. There has been no indication of how well received this two films will be, they haven't been reviewed yet.
There's also Blue Jasmine and The Butler, which were released in the summer but have kind of peaked as far as their Best Picture potential is concerned. Jasmine will definitely be a big player for Cate Blanchett in the Best Actress category but other than that I'm not sure. It's very possible Catching Fire could sneak in the running for Best Picture.
What do you think? and does the film deserve to be nominated for Best Picture?
