I know I'll probably get a lot of hate for even suggesting this but I think an X-Men reboot could give us a lot of wonderful things. One of the greatest things that Marvel Studios has done, and Sony is now doing, is planning out their films years in advance so they can have teases in early movies to things that we can be excited for in future movies. This comes from PLANNING. Something that the X-Men film franchise has been lacking. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of the films and we definitely owe them a lot of gratitude for laying the groundwork for successful superhero films, however I wish they would have been planned out better.
The Avengers franchise worked by creating individual films and then bringing them all together, I would suggest the X-Men franchise do the opposite. Start out with a team film and then break off into individual films, and come back to team films and bounce back and forth.
Here is my rough layout:
X-Men 1Introduce Xavier teaching a young team of X-Men. They are in their late teens except Iceman who is a few years younger. They thwart a plan by the Brotherhood to attack the government. Ending tease could be the government commissioning the building of the first Sentinels.
Introduce: The original X-Men: Xavier,Cyclops, Jean Grey, Iceman, Beast and Angel.
Also the original Brotherhood: Magneto, Mastermind, Quicksilver, Toad and the Scarlet Witch.
X-Men OriginsA prequel showing us the original relationship between Xavier and Magneto, how they met and why they couldn't work together. Show us the TRUE origin now what we saw in X-Men: First Class.
X-Men 2The original team of X-Men is captured and Xavier needs a new team to rescue them. Cyclops leads a new team against their enemy (Possibly Sinister, experimenting on mutants?)
Introduce: Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Sunfire and Banshee, Havok and Polaris.
It would be fun to see a movie without Magneto being the villain. X-Men is a story, after all, about human rights and the X-Men fighting against racism and for diversity. It isn't a story about Xavier vs. Magneto.
WolverineHe's the most popular character in the films a solo movie done well is a great idea. Give him a great villain like the Gorgon from Wolverine: Enemy of the State/Agent of SHIELD. Introducing a young Kitty Pryde, and having them bond would give Wolverine a strong reason to return to Xavier's to take her somewhere safe and give him a reason to stay.
Cyclops and Jean GreyAfter the events with Xavier creating a new team these two could leave for a while, (maybe the movie could take place during their honeymoon?) Sinister could appear as the villain once more tracking them down. Sinister's previous motives in experimenting on her could have mixed up her powers and in this movie we would see her become the Phoenix.
It could go on from there. X-Men 3 with a larger team, and Magneto returning as a villain. X-Force branching out with characters like X-23, Domino, Cable and Callisto. Individual character movies for beloved characters like Storm and Gambit. Introducing larger villains like Apocalypse, and Dark Phoenix. One thing that I would love to see is Genosha and the Sentinels destroy Magneto's paradise. I would love to see a version of the Young X-Men student team. It would be fun to see the union of Emma Frost and the X-Men. There are tons of possibilities.
Unfortunately because the movies we have now and the infinite number of cameos we've had of characters who only appeared in a single movie OR only appeared for a few minutes (Gambit, Jubilee, Nightcrawler, Emma Frost, Angel, Darwin, Banshee, etc.) we won't get to see them again unless they're recast or re-written which RUINS continuity.
Personally I'm super excited for Days of Future Past next year and I'm excited to see what they do with X-Force. I just think eventually we will have to see a reboot and I pray that this time they plan it out so they can keep it going for a long time.
What thoughts do you have? Leave me some worthwhile and productive comments, tell me what you think would be good about a reboot and what would be bad about it. I want to hear both!
