It seems the legendary Sir Ridley Scott has jumped back on the science fiction bandwagon with numerous film projects currently in production including the film adaptation of the sci-fi book series Wool.
A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper:
"Casting starts early next year and people are already saying this movie will be the blockbuster to end all blockbusters in 2015."
Set in a post-apocalyptic future where the human race live underground, the first instalment of the book series, which is only 60 pages long, was self-published in July 2011 by bookshop employee Hugh Howey. After Wool became a U.S. bestseller, the author sold the film rights to 20th Century Fox.
The author was influenced by Scott's sci-fi films while growing up and claims there are elements of 'Wool' which fit with the director's previous works.
Howey previously said:
''I'm sure I was influenced growing up on 'Alien' and I'm sure Ripley [the character played by Sigourney Weaver] was in my mind when I wrote the character of Juliette [one of the main characters in 'Wool']. I'm sure the pacing of 'Wool' also harkens back to his older works where you can develop characters and tell the story rather than starting off with explosions.''
This new sci-fi series has been labelled “the next Hunger Games”. Hopefully, we’ll be hearing a lot more about the casting developments for this upcoming blockbuster.
So what do you think? Will Wool be on your films-to-watch-in-2015 list?
