Every year the Oscars come by and every year they usually award nominations to films that either did well at the box office or have a famous movie star. Although the movies that deserve recognition the most, are primarily the ones that do not fit any of those qualifications. I'm sure there are more than 5 movies this year that are going to get snubbed, but these movies in my opinion deserve it the most.
5) Spring Breakers
In no way shape or form am I saying that it should be nominated for Best Picture. The cinematography, however, should be. It was absolutely phenomenal. The colors, the slow motion scenes, and the ending were done expertly. Also, James Franco portrayal of Alien was awesome. He made the film in my opinion. Due to its raunchiness and the fact that it was so long ago will push it to be under the radar. 4) Frances Ha
Although receiving a Golden Globe nomination for her performance, Greta Gerwig will likely not be announced for Best Actress. However, her best chance would Best Original Screenplay. Written by Noah Baumbach and Great Gerwig, the screenplay was both funny and relatable. Due to the fact that it was not in theaters long will cause Gerwig to be forgotten by voters. However, it being on Instant Netflix could help. 3) Fruitvale Station
Probably the best film debut this year, directer/writer Ryan Coogler has received a lot of praise for his talents. It was released around July and was getting some Oscar buzz, however, there have been so many new films like American Hustle and 12 Years a Slave who have been taking all of it away. It's best chance for a nomination is probably Octavia Spencer. Her performance was extremely good. Due to overcrowding, this film will probably not be announced at the Oscar ceremony. 2) In a World...
One of the best screenplays of the year, writer/actress Lake Bell charms the audience throughout the movie. Her performance was hysterical but her writing is what shined. The characters were well thought out and the goofiness of all of the voices were top notch. Due to being completely under the radar, this film will be left in the cold by the Oscar voters. 1) Short Term 12 In my opinion, Short Term 12 is one of the best movies of the year. Actress Brie Larson makes the movie heartbreaking and courageous. Her performance could best be described as fearless. Her character is so sad and relatable. So far, Larson has been doing pretty well at the critic awards. She has actually been beating Cate Blanchett who has been the front runner at the Oscars all year. Not only should Larson be nominated, but the film should as well. Due to not being popular or well know, it will unfortunately be ignored.
