Five actors that Bidness Etc believes would be just right for movies on major business personalities, playing the role of the CEO
In the Hollywood of the 21st century, biographical films are all the rage. From biopics like Jobs to The Social Network, it seems geeks are suddenly all the rage, and successful billionaire geeks at that.
We’ve put together a list of five solid actors who could best recreate major business personalities on the silver screen.
1. Jeff Bridges | Richard Branson
Sir Richard Branson is the founder of Virgin Group, which comprises more than 400 companies. He was a dyslexic child who struggled in school, and went on to become the fourth richest citizen of the UK. Branson’s first business venture was a magazine called Student, which he began at the age of sixteen. He later went on to set up a mail-order record business, before establishing Virgin Records, which eventually became known as Virgin Megastores. Today, Virgin is a household name.
Bidness Etc picked Jeff Bridges to play Richard Branson. Bridges didn’t excel as a student either, and his parents had sent him to military school to instill in him the right kind of focus and dedication required for school and beyond. He would have a good idea of how to play a flamboyant billionaire like Branson, since Brides has portrayed a high-profile CEO character like Obadiah Stane, and other roles which bring out a charismatic side - like his performance as Jack Baker. He has played roles which required him to think outside the box, such as in The Big Lebowski, which is why we can imagine him paragliding with a naked woman on his back, just like Branson himself.
Both of them also know “how” to be successful. Branson has created a business empire from practically nothing, while Bridges has been nominated for six Oscars, and has also won the prestigious golden statue for his work in Crazy Heart.
Branson has a net worth of $4.6 billion, while Bridges is worth $28 million. If nothing else, both know how to live big.
2. Keanu Reeves | Elon Musk
CEO and founder of SpaceX and Tesla Motors (TSLA), Elon Musk is as close to the real-life version of Tony Stark as you could imagine –without all that badass vigilantism. He’s an engineer, entrepreneur, inventor, and investor. After teaching himself how to write code when he was 12, Elon sold the code for a video game called Blastar for $500. With degrees in business and physics from the University of Pennsylvania, Elon was far ahead of his, well, non-existent competitors.
We, at Bidness Etc, believe that Keanu Reeves could be the perfect actor to bring Musk’s aura to the screen. Reeves’ roles in movies like The Matrix Trilogy - and with his strong background in theatre -prove that he has the skills to pull off more serious performances, but we’ve also noticed his ability for lightheartedness in movies like Speed. Considering that both have been highly successful in their careers despite battling early criticism, Reeves, with the right combination of charm and aggression can most accurately portray Musk, from child prodigy to successful genius.
Elon Musk has a net worth of $6.7 billion; Keanu Reeves is worth $350 million.
3. Andrew Garfield | Jack Dorsey
Co-founder of Twitter (TWTR) and founder of Square, Jack Dorsey is the American web developer. Widely known as one of the greatest innovators of the modern era, Dorsey has established himself as one of the coolest of a new generation of young CEOs.
Our Bidness Etc team feels that Andrew Garfield would be perfect for a Jack Dorsey movie. A mix of flamboyance and maturity would be vital to such a role, and Andrew Garfield’s varying film performances, from Spider-Man to Eduardo Saverin, demonstrate his ability to play very different characters. The boyish charm that we see in his version of Peter Parker is very reminiscent of Dorsey, while his cool and composed portrayal of Eduardo Saverin in the Social Network should help him channel Jack Dorsey’s focus and drive.
Since Garfield has previously acted alongside Jesse Eisenberg, there’s a good chance he’ll be able to find the right mix of Eduardo Saverin and Mark Zuckerberg, which could help him pull off a character like Jack Dorsey.
Dorsey comes across as the sort of guy you’d enjoy having a conversation with, and so does Andrew Garfield. They probably don’t look a lot alike, but hey, Ashton Kutcher didn’t really look like Steve Jobs either.
Jack Dorsey has a net worth of $2.1 billion; Andrew Garfield is worth $2.2 million.
4. Natalie Portman| Marissa Mayer
Yahoo! (YHOO) President and CEO, Marissa Mayer, created a huge splash when she left Google (GOOG), after serving as a long-time executive and key spokesperson. In 2013, she was ranked the 8th most powerful businesswoman in America by Fortune magazine. Mayer was Google’s first female engineer, and she even oversaw the layout of the most-visited web page in the world - the Google homepage.
Natalie Portman would be Bidness Etc’s choice to play Marissa Mayer. From movies like Black Swan and V for Vendetta, to No Strings Attached, Natalie has shown her acting.....read more.
