Anytime anything is released about either the Avengers or the Justice League both sides start bitting at each other saying that their side is better. The biggest wars start over which superheros will appear and their respective casting.
Ironically, the cast breakdown is very similar on both sides.
Both casts feauture 7 men and 2 women in the major superhero cores. Both feature one main woman and a side woman who is less featured. Both feature 4 leading men who are the staples of the teams (Superman, Batman, Flash, Green Lantern) / (Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, The Hulk). And both feature 3 men who neither make nor break the movie if made.
However, DC would most likely get the race card if Martian Manhunter is casted with a black actor.
One thing that I believe DC will have over Marvel is money. Currently, this DC roster features:
- 1 Major Celebrity (Ben Affleck)
- 4 Television Celebrities (Stephen Amell, Grant Gustin, Jensen Ackles, Katie Cassidy)
- 2 Lesser-Known Celebrities (Henry Cavill, Lance Reddik)
- 2 Practically Unknown Celebrities (Gal Gadot, Brett Tucker)
However, Marvel's roster tells a different story:
- 3 Major Celebrities (Robert Downey Jr., Scarlet Johansson, Paul Rudd)
- 4 Lesser-Known Celebrities (Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner)
- 2 Practically Unknown Celebrities (Elizabeth Olsen, Aaron-Taylor Johnson)
Basically, I see Marvel paying out the nose to get the big name celebrities into their roster. News came out in the past year that Robert Downey Jr. signed a new contract for a very large sum of money showing that not only is there a decline in actor interest on Marvel's side, but that Disney is using much of its profits on the actors, but not special effects and other ingredients into the film, yet, The Avengers did break a billion dollars....
DC is, as I've elaborated on in a previous article, defining the characters for what they are. They are choosing the actors who they believe will portray the character the best and not who will draw in the biggest crowds. With this, I see DC not necessarily paying low, but not paying as much money for their actors, plus I'm sure more actors and actresses would jump at the chance to play some of the most iconic names in modern history such as Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman.
If it is not completely clear yet, I am leaning towards DC more. My last point is to look at the cast line-up's above. Look at the faces in the row. Personally, I believe that the JLA WILL be a more powerful movie than The Avengers because simply, the JLA is more powerful than The Avengers. This isn't some slam on the charcters Marvel has or a boost to DC, but the JLA just looks more powerful lined up to me than The Avengers. They physically have more power total than The Avengers.
