The chances of The Walking Dead ending on a positive note, with the gang of survivors skipping off into the sunset surrounded by rainbows and kittens are really slim, but creator Robert Kirkman has revealed the conclusion of Season 4 will end on a feeling of hope:

We started the season pretty hopeful and pretty optimistic. We'll open our last half of the season pretty bleak and we'll move them to something a little more hopeful by the end.

Bleak is fairly decent description for The Walking Dead, where the tiny moments of slight optimism are punctuated by the crushing inevitability that everybody dies alone, devoured and lying in a pool of their own entrails.

But if Season 4 is to end on a hopeful note, does this mean the group might reach the sanctuary of the Alexandria Safe Zone?
