I recently watched the critically acclaimed movie. I was very impressed with the film. It had the right blend of story, romance, and humor. I'm not one for romance, but this movie had me wanting more. The story was interesting and shocked me at the end. The casting was perfect! Jennifer Lawrence was by far the best in the movie, with Christian Bale for a close second. The film itself had a "Casino" or "Goodfellas" feel to it. If I didn't know better I would have said it was directed by Martin Scorsese. Which isn't as it is directed by David O. Russell, who once again makes a great film.
I won't go into the story too much here for those who would like to see the film. Basically, Bradley Cooper is an FBI agent that makes a deal with Christian Bale and Amy Adams to catch corrupt politicians and mobsters. Bale's wife, Lawrence causes trouble during some of the film making Bale nervous and pissed at the same time. Renner is a family man, and a caring individual to the community and to the office. His character I won't go much into because he's the main piece of the puzzle in the film. I don't want to ruin anything. Throughout the film you hear Bale's character narrating the story. Similar to "Goodfellas" and "Casino". Hustle is around that same time period too. Which also gives you that feel.
The acting was excellent! Bale plays a con artist, who realizes that he is doing the wrong thing to escape prison. Bale's character is corrupt, but also humble and touching to watch. Seeing him fight with Cooper, shows that he doesn't back down to anyone. At home, it's something else. He is a caring father and mends all the problems that happened that day. Cooper plays an agent that wants to make a name for himself at any means necessary. Who also wants to be with Adams and makes a deal with her on the side. Coopers character changes dramatically through the film, it's a roller coaster with him. Lawrence is a troubled house wife, that has to raise a young child. She continues to smoke, drink and what not. Bale still crawls back to her. Adams is a young, attractive woman who falls for Bale's character and joins his con artist ways to make a living. Who is confused and troubled by whatever Lawrence says to her. She rethinks about her past deals and feels guilty, so she wants to be done after this deal with the FBI. The acting makes the movie, feel like real life. You feel the character's emotion, heartbreak, insanity frustration, paranoid, and frightened. It's a never ending roller coaster throughout the film. The ups and downs, really make you grab your seat.
