"The Wolf Of Wall Street" passed the $100 million mark domestically on Wednesday, January 29 and became the 34th film released in 2013 to do so - padding a record "American Hustle" had originally broken. The previous record of 32 films passing $100 million domestically was set in 2009.

With $96.7 million already and still playing strong, "Lone Survivor" should become the 35th 2013 film to pass $100 million domestically.

Pretty good for what was derided all summer long as a "Year of the Flop", no?

While there were many films that fell short of expectations, it is now clear that - despite not having an "Avengers" level blockbuster - 2013 is continuing to break records because it has had a diverse group of movies that various audiences found appealing.

Look at this diverse group of films:

Incredibly enough, this list includes almost no critical bombs - with the exception of "The Hangover Part II" and possibly "Grown Ups 2". In short, there were a wide variety of quality films to choose from and audiences responded by heading down to the theater and buying tickets for a record-breaking haul.

Now, if only Hollywood could continue to follow this formula.
