It has been a while since I did a top ten list, so I decided to let you in on my Favorite Movies on Netflix as of today- February 05, 2014. I have picked one film each from ten different genres and have movies represented from 1945-2012. I hope you find something on this list that you haven't seen before and love once you've seen it, because trying new things is how you broaden your horizons. I am listing the movies from highest to lowest IMDb Rating, so without farther delay, here are my ten favorite movies on netflix at this time:
Hachi: A Dog's Tale (2009) - This is the True Story of the Bond that a College Professor has with a Stray Puppy that he finds at the Train Station one day and how that Bond is NEVER BROKEN, even after the Man Passes Away. It is under Drama and received 8.2 Stars.
The Hunger Games (2012) - Unless you have been living in a Cave somewhere or don't believe in TV or the Internet you already know this story. It is based on a series of books that tell of a world where Young People have to act as Tributes for their Districts in order to Serve as Sport for the Upper Class. That is until Katness Everdeen takes her sister's place in the games and changes everything. It is under Sci-Fi and received 7.3 Stars.
The Scarlet Clue (1945) - I know that this movie came out 69 years ago and that the lead in it, Sidney Toler, was himself either 69 or 70 at the time. I even know it is in Black and White, but I am asking you to at least check it out before dismissing it entirely. It is a Murder Mystery similar to the Clue Game (look it up) and it has a lot of twists in the plot. It is listed under suspense and has maintained a 7.0 Star rating to this day.
The Expendables 2 (2012) - As with the Hunger Games above you should already know what this movie series is about, but in case you don't it is about several groups of mercenaries that are all played by pretty much every action star that is still able to work in that genre of film. Sylvester Stallone started the series and is the main hero in both films. This is a straight up action movie without pretenses and it received 6.8 Stars.
12 Dates of Christmas (2011) - This is a very entertaining movie that has the same formula as Groundhog Day (look it up) except it is a Woman in the lead this time who is reliving the same time period over and over again until she finally does everything right and gets the man of her dreams. This is a Song-Based movie which is found under Holiday movies and received 6.4 Stars.
Gun Duel in Durango (1957) - This is the other older movie on my list. As you can tell it came out in the early days of Color. This movie tells the story of an ex-outlaw who decides to go straight and gets a job as a Bank Teller, only to have it robbed by his old gang. They plant evidence to make it look like he had a part in the crime and he has to capture them in order to clear his name. It is listed under westerns and received a 5.8 Star Rating.
Heaven's Door (2012) - This is the story of a Young Girl whose Grandfather passes away and how she somehow finds a portal into Heaven that allows her to talk to him. She also starts having healing powers as well. As you can imagine before she knows it she is on the news and everyone wants a piece of her, so to speak. I thought it had a good message, but it may not be for some people. It is listed under Family and it has a 5.7 Star Rating.
Tomb Raider (2001) - It is hard to believe that it has been almost 13 years since this movie came out. In case you haven't heard of this movie, It is about a Woman from a Wealthy Family that decides she wants to be an Archeologist and the Adventures she has while working in that field. It is based on the Video Game of the Same Name and Received 5.7 Stars as well as Heaven's Door did (see above).
The Genesis Code (2010) - I was very surprised that I couldn't place this movie higher on my list. The acting throughout it is very well done and it has an interesting premise: What if Science and the Bible actually support each other as being the truth instead of being at odds as most people believe? It is an interesting question which is what brings a Star Hockey Student who has turned away from God in favor of Science and a Journalism Student who is a Preacher's Daughter into each others lives. It eventually leads them to prove to their professor's that the answer to the question I asked earlier is to open an exhibit proving that is EXACTLY what Science and the Bible do. At the end of the Movie it states that this is a true story and tells about the actual exhibit, but I didn't see that on IMDb, so I'm not sure if it really is true or not. Either way, I think you'll like it. It is listed under Romance and only has 5.3 Stars.
Shrooms (2007) - This is another Movie I thought would have a Higher Rating then it does. It tells the Story of a group of Teenagers on Vacation that get stuck in the woods and hunted down by a killer after they all decide to go on a Shroom Trip. The acting is fairly good throughout and it has a Surprise ending that you only half expect to be the truth. It goes back and shows you what ACTUALLY happened throughout the movie just before the big reveal at the end. It is listed under Horror and has a measly 4.7 Rating, which in my opinion should at least be in the mid-five to low-six point ranges.
There you have them folks, my top ten movies on netflix with mini plots, year made, genre in which to find them, and IMDb rating. Have you heard of any or all of these before? Do/Did you like them?
