Yep, you read that right. Vampire Academy, the movie shrouded in stigma compared to countless other YA (Young Adult) adaptations, has managed to ignite not a spark, but a flame within fans to help it succeed.
Based on the first in Richelle Mead's six book series, the movie stars 19-year-old rising Hollywood star, Zoey Deutch, as the infamous Rose Hathaway of St. Vladimir's Academy, the ancient vampire boarding school, hidden in the outback of Montana.
Released on February 7th in the US & Canada, the film has unfortunately garnered mixed to negative reviews from critics, (those annoying cynics who doubt anything not Oscar-nominated), but positive and outstanding reviews from fans old and new. With release dates scrambled across the globe, the fans have taken it upon themselves to spread the good news about the movie and lay all the negativity to rest.
The dedicated VA fandom has a number of plans up their sleeve to show the world just how amazing the movie and mythology within the story is, and with support from the producers themselves, this is one fight they're definitely not going to back down from.
Having beat RoboCop, Godzilla and Divergent in the MTV Movie Brawl to place as the 2nd Most Anticipated Movie of 2014, the fans are more than used to a little competition. They are as determined for the movie to succeed as they were to beat the aforementioned movies. With the hope of a sequel fluttering around in the not too distant future, it's over to the VA Family (the name fans have given themselves) to get this movie the success it deserves.
Written by the genius that brought us Heathers, Daniel Waters, and directed by the mastermind behind Mean Girls, Mark Waters, Vampire Academy is a sassy mix of humor and action with its roots firmly planted in Russian and Romanian folklore.
