Long hair? Dhamphir. I like books. Blogging. Food. I met John Barrowman when I was nine and he hugged me.

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead is a series which captivated readers from day one, and still to this day manages to bring thousands of different people together with it's amazing story and strong FEMALE protagonist Rose Hathaway who has to be the only girl in the world who can go from hell and back and still have a witty attitude and fantastic hair. If the name Vampire Academy made you want to roll away and bleach your eyes, fear not. Vampire Academy is more than just a silly teenage, angst filled all for one with fangs. Its something every young adult should read.

Friendship is the main force behind the story. The main characters are best friends who would follow each other to the end.

Rose Hathaway is a half vampire, half human hybrid who's life mission is to protect the living vampires, the Moroi, from the Strigoi, the standard vampires of nightmares who kill their victims whilst drinking their blood. Moroi vampires take small amounts of blood from giving donors and can wield elemental magic which is pretty awesome if you ask me, whilst the Dhamphirs train for almost all their teenage lives so they can graduate and become GUARDIANS, fully fledged, kick ass bodyguards who can kill Strigoi in three very gruesome ways and wield silver stakes.

The mythology behind Vampire Academy is one of the main reasons why fans can become so involved with the world; you can almost fall into the world and make a place for yourself there. Not only is the mythology incredible, but the themes and choices the characters make and show really go to places other series' haven't dared to venture. Mental health. Self harm. Bullying. Slut shaming. Depression. Alcohol abuse. Love. Sacrifice. Friendship. Vampire Academy speaks out about topics every teenager hears about, but sometimes doesn't learn. Each character has their own story, their own agenda, and we as readers can all learn how to be better people and how to reach for help when needed because of that.

The friendship between Lissa and Rose is something everyone can strive to have. Obviously, most friends don't have a psychic bonds and scary situations thrust upon them, but their friendship is beautifully strong and full of trust and the faith that they will stand by each other forever. The main difference in this story to other YA adaptions is that the FRIENDSHIP IS KEY. This is a story which starts with two best friends, and ends with two sisters. That was something which made me fall in love with this series so much more, that their was that normal flow of love interests and sexy time, but behind all that was this relationship between Lissa and Rose, that they may quarrel and argue, but they always fight for each other in the end.

Not only is Vampire Academy a fantastically captivating series, but THERE IS GOING TO BE A MOVIE. MOVIE. HOLLYWOOD. DIMITRI BELIKOV IN THE FLESH. If you live in the US or Canada, Vampire Academy is already out in cinemas, and you should totally go and see it! Countless of the poor start on the Box Office, we are catching up and without the , this probably would've never have happened. Vampire Academy's following is strong, assertive and kinda' scary if you get on the wrong side of them, but we are a family and will do anything to make sure Vampire Academy is a success! This story deserves to be told, and with a fan video in the making, hundreds of people discussing and planning events and every fan doing whatever they can to help each other and help in the fate of this bad ass, sexy, raw and beautiful story, we are together in this. People may judge, people may write nasty comments, people may hate and bash, but all in all, we believe in this story, and we will fight for it till the end.
