Today, filming of Age of Ultron began in Johannesburg, South Africa! Is this filming a direct reference to Wakanda, homeland of Black Panther?

Joss Whedon's critically acclaimed sequel film The Avengers: Age of Ultron began filming today in South Africa, specifically in Johannesburg. The crew will be filming at the location for another two weeks, and many roads throughout the city have been closed on and off today.

Gauteng Film Commission's CEO Phindile Mbanjwa, when asked, explained that the filming done there in Johannesburg will take up the majority of the first 10 minutes of the blockbuster. Is Johannesburg going to be the title city of Wakanda? Mbanjwa says not, similar to the way Marvel Studios' President Kevin Feige did when he said there are "no plans for The Vision" in Avengers 2, which was proven false earlier this week.

Despite part of the film crew being in Waka- I mean Johannesburg, casting calls for extras in Italy were sent out asking for people between the ages of 23-70 to come out February 13th-15th to be part of the backdrop for the film. This news follows last week's news that filming will also take place in South Korea, along with Soo Hyun Kim, a Korean actress, joining the cast as a doctor and assistant to Tony Stark. The director oversaw her casting himself, ensuring that her role is an important one.

Does the vast spread of filming locations indicate the disaster will be worldwide this time around? Is it to open up potential future superheroes? In honesty, the chances are the answer is both. Earlier this week Stan Lee stated in an interview that "Black Panther" would be a film very shortly. Marvel Studios' President Kevin Feige has highly suggested his desire for a "Doctor Strange" film, who has a deep-set connection with the Far East, including areas like Korea. Leaks of the new Marvel one-shot "All Hail The King" reveal the real Mandarin is still alive, who also has a connection with the Far East. When it comes to Marvel, there is never seems to be a coincidence.

Marvel's The Avengers: Age of Ultron premieres worldwide on May 1st, 2015.
