READ AT YOUR OWN RISK DUE TO MAJOR MOVIE SPOILERS

The Red Skull is as good as confirmed in [Captain America: The Winter Soldier](movie:254973)

. The movie is practically screaming "I know who the real villain is!" and sometimes Marvel drives us insane with their plot twists *cough Iron Man 3 cough* and their about to do it again, but this time we'll be ready. There is no longer a doubt in my mind that the Red Skull will be in the upcoming Captain America 2. "Woah, slow down there! Let's not jump to conclusions!" I hear you all scream. Perhaps by the end of this article, you'll agree with me.

1) There is a Red Skull toy in "The Winter Soldier" Action Figure Set.

Why would he be the only character in the movie promotional toy set to not be in the film? Yes, you can do it, but it logically would make the most sense for him to actually be a character from the movie to include him in the toy set. I mean, that's kind of like putting Loki in the Avengers 2 toyset when.. he's not in the Avengers 2. Another thing to notice is that the toy is called "Air Raid Red Skull". There was never an air raid in The First Avenger movie. This fact alone practically confirms my theory. He is 1 of 4 MAIN ACTION FIGURES in this toyset, alongside Captain America, The Falcon, and Winter Soldier; the main characters of the film.

2) The Winter Soldier is NOT the real villain. In fact, he's practically the complete opposite of villain.

What do you mean he isn't a villain? He "flipping" attacked Nick Fury in the trailer (pun most definitely intended)!! Well, SPOILER ALERT, The Winter Soldier is actually Bucky Barnes, Captain America's best friend in the first film who appeared to die. He actually survived, but suffered amnesia, and was trained as a Russian spy (alongside Black Widow). In the comics, Bucky even goes on to become the next Captain America after Steve Rogers dies! So, if Winter Soldier isn't the bad guy, who is?

3) Since the Red Skull wears masks, he can be anyone he chooses!

How does that work? Think back to the first Captain America movie. Red Skull wore a mask over his face for a good portion of the movie, but the mask was so realistic that it looked like his face, like just any other ordinary human. This means he can just as easily make a new mask, or even multiple! Imagine a scene like the opening of The Dark Knight, where all of Joker's goons have masks, including the Joker himself. Now imagine the Joker being the Red Skull. Yes, I know, an AMAZING thought right? This also means he can be any of the characters in the movie, or be pretending to be any of the characters in the movie. Anyone remember Mad Eye Moody in Harry Potter?

4) The Red Skull's lead scientist from the first film, Dr. Arnim Zola, is returning for the Winter Soldier film.

The scientist behind the weapons using the power of the Tesseract is back. This goes to show that people from the World War II era have plenty of means to survive until modern day. On top of this, the Red Skull's super soldier serum makes him age very slowly, so he's going to be around for awhile longer than everyone else anyways. Why would you bring back Red Skull's lead scientist without him? I mean, there's no reason to believe he isn't still alive in present-day? Even if there was, we thought The Winter Soldier died in Captain America: The First Avenger, but even that proved to be false!

5) The Red Skull is the solution to ALL the missing puzzle pieces we still have questions about in the film, and coincides with the comic series.

Robert Redford who plays Alexander Pierce in The Winter Soldier remarked in an interview that "it was nice to play a villain". Those who know their comics know Alexander Pierce was never once a villain, though even Marvel has confirmed him as a villain on their "Lego Winter Soldier Villains" list.

In the Winter Soldier comics however, undercover Aleksander Lukin was revealed to be the Red Skull in.. wait what comic series? That's right, the Winter Soldier comic series. Marvel has already combined multiple characters in their other movies (e.g. Mandarin/Killian) and will surely do it again. This would also explain the absence of "Red Skull" or "Johann Shmidt" in the movie cast list.

The trailer's signature lines for Alexander Pierce read "Captain, to build a better world means tearing the old one down, and that makes enemies." Perhaps this means nothing to you, but to me this sounds a lot like Hitler's philosophy of creating a new world order, or Johann Shmidt's similar theory, AKA Red Skull. Just some food for thought. (Plus Alexander Pierce has the Red Skull facial type)

6) The Soundtrack Song Title

The Winter Soldier soundtrack title names leaked. One of the tracks is called "Alexander Pierce is Red Skull", which is possibly the biggest soundtrack spoiler since "Qui-Gon's Funeral" on Star Wars I. It also reveals Guardians of the Galaxy will have some kind of after credits scene, most likely one of two: the other rumored to feature Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver.

My conclusion: Alexander Pierce is really Red Skull trying to create havoc from within SHIELD itself. Believe or don't believe, but when the movie comes, mark my words: "I told you so."
