CNN has admitted to firing British TV presenter and former tabloid editor Piers Morgan, as falling ratings finally took their toll on his talk show, Piers Morgan Live, which failed to connect with Stateside audiences.
After a three year run taking over from Larry King, interviewing many guests including a slew of politicians, celebs and members of the public, this month saw some of the show’s smallest audiences since Morgan took over in January 2011.
Piers himself revealed that "It's been a painful period and lately we have taken a bath in the ratings". Morgan also seemed to be aware of how his anti-gun sentiment - from a foreigner, no less - annoyed many outspoken Americans. He said:
Look, I am a British guy debating American cultural issues, including guns, which has been very polarizing, and there is no doubt that there are many in the audience who are tired of me banging on about it.
In the current media age, no TV host remains completely neutral, but Piers' lecturing on the evils of guns probably clashed a little with CNN's impartial stance.
If you've seen the show, you might noticed that there have also been occaisions when Piers Morgan didn't seem to like America all that much - and American audiences seem to have just returned the favor.
What do you think about Piers Morgan Live getting the chop? Are you glad the guy will be disappearing from your small screens?
