"The Hunger Games; Catching Fire" inched past "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" this past weekend to become one of the Top 10 movies ever at the domestic box-office.

"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" has now earned $423.6 million domestically; "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's chest" had earned $423.3 million during it's run.

This is likely the last major milestone for "Catching Fire", which is the highest-grossing-film released in 2013 and the first movie with a predecessor that earned at least $350 million domestically (The original "Hunger Games" did $408 million domestically) that superseded that predecessor's box-office totals. All other eight follow-ups to such mega-blockbusters saw a decline in domestic box-office, since it is difficult to expand on such an obviously humongous fanbase.

With a meager $319,126 domestic weekend gross this past weekend, there is simply no way for "Catching Fire" to pass "E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial" at #9 on the list - though it took multiple runs to get there - with $435 million domestically and certainly not the $441 million domestic take of "Shrek 2", which is #8 on the all-time domestic box-office list.

Still, being the top film of 2013 and the first to outdo a predecessor at the domestic box-office that did at least $350 million in it's initial run? I'd say Katniss Everdeen is a true phenomenon..Hopefully, her success will translate into box-office for films like "Divergent" and pave the way for solo films starring "Black Widow", "Ms. Marvel" and "Wonder Woman".
